As part of the U.S. Department of Energy EERE International’s South Africa Clean Energy Project, Construction Management Assistant Professor Ravi Srinivasan co-led the energy modeling project titled, “Energy Modeling Project for the Development of Energy Performance Levels in Buildings in the Republic of South Africa.” The methodology for this project was developed by the Working Group consisting of South African National Energy Development Institute, US Department of Energy, University of Florida (led by Srinivasan) and WinBuild. On June 22, 2016, Srinivasan presented to the South African Board of Standard (SABS) Technical Committee 59, Committee for Codes Development, in SABS headquarters, Pretoria, South Africa.
This project was then selected as the finalist by the South African Association of Energy Efficiency on November 8-9, 2016 in Gauteng, South Africa. The results of this project will be used to plan reductions in energy usage, which will occur in the built environment sector as result of the implementation of forthcoming versions of South African National Standards (SANS) 10400-XA Energy usage in buildings and SANS 204 Energy efficiency in buildings.
